What is SMS gateway?

It is a platform, a protocol through which SMS is sent to a mobile phone subscriber, with or without the use of native device such as a cell phone or other hand held device. Today, the SMS feature is largely used to send marketing campaigns to target recipients via internet based gateway software.

Online SMS as the name suggests, is an SMS sent from web (Internet) and does not use a native device such as a mobile phone. It works on the same principle as bulk SMS. You can also customize this SMS by adding your name which is generally not possible while sending it through hand held device.

Another advantage of online SMS is the hassle free text input via regular keyboard.

It is basically a store and forward facility. It means that when you send a text message, it is not delivered immediately to its recipient. On the contrary it is stored in the network providers SMSC and forwarded at a later time. The transfer or delivery is done through various protocols such as HTTP and SMTP.

You can send online SMS via web Interface, desktop application or through HTTP gateway.
