SMS to doctor after childbirth

Generally, one is expected to break the happy news of the birth of a child to one's family members and friends.

However, the locals in Parbat district first inform the doctor at the District Hospital about the birth of their child at local health posts.

They send SMS to the doctor stating the weight and gender of the new-born and the time and date the child was born as part of the campaign of augmenting the birth registration in the district.

With this campaign started since two weeks it has become easier to maintain the record of child delivery service provided by the different health posts and providing advice on related issues, according to the District Health Office, Parbat.

The District Hospital has been getting five such SMS in a week, said Dr Sagar Rajbhandari, Chief of the District Hospital, Parbat.

Round-the-clock child delivery services have been started at 17 different health centres in the district. As per the records kept at the District Hospital, on an average 5222 children are born in the district annually and of them, only 4,702 survive beyond two years from birth.
