One well-known Saturday morning cartoon experienced this simple existence lesson at the conclusion of each episode: “Knowing is actually Fifty percent the actual Battle.”
Marketers as well as advertisers all over the world understand this particular to be real. In case your clients – possible, present and former – learn about what you are promoting, then the likelihood of somebody buying your products or making use of your providers gets greater. Individuals knowing or otherwise being aware of that which you offer can make the main difference between a effective company a treadmill that goes bust line.
But if there is something to explain today’s globe, it’s noisy. Commercials over Radio and TV contend with brightly-colored ads upon newspapers as well as billboards for interest. Banners as well as pop-up advertisements try to lure the actual denizens from the Web in order to click them.
Inside a realm of such cacophony, just how can someone without the budget along with other resources of Big Business actually are hoping to make people know about the issues you are promoting or the function that you can do?
SMS marketing is an effective way of reaching out to consumers that won’t burn up via your own bottom line the way in which conventional advertising will. SMS marketing makes use of, as the name suggests, Brief Information Sending, what’s otherwise known as “texting.Inch” as well as SMS or texting is actually attached to that almost-ubiquitous (if it isn’t completely therefore already) device of modern, Modern day existence: cellular telephone.
In the United States alone, the actual transmission of the cellular phone is actually estimated around 285 zillion. A Nielsen survey in 2007 found out that 35% of “tweens” — those between 8 as well as 12 years of age — possess a mobile phone. And just how many millions of individuals buy new phones or change old ones at least once annually?
This amazing achieve helps to ensure that any kind of message delivered through the medium that is the cellular phone includes a excellent possibility of achieving a wide quantity of individuals in the market you intend to catch.
Also, since you will be while using most basic function from the modern mobile phone – SMS, or even texting — as your form of advertising, you can be sure that you will be in a position to reach anybody in your target audience regardless of whether they’ve the most recent smartphone or even still use a HTC 5190 (which, to people born within following the Twentieth century, was one of the first compact cell phone units which made text messaging a highly effective means of communication).
This form of marketing can in fact be more efficient than, state, a Television industrial or a paper ad. Due to the handheld remote control, individuals can simply switch channels when it is period for any commercial split. Readers can simply flip previous even full-page, full-color newspaper ads. This would mean that you compensated a lot money as well as did not actually reach be seen or heard by your target audience.
However through SMS advertising, you can rest assured that people may a minimum of look into your own message. The actual instinctive reflex of all mobile phone customers is to get that device, that is usually not more than an arm’s reach away, whenever it performs which seems to tell them a message has been received. They may disregard or even remove your SMS after, however at least these people first viewed it.
To the uninterested, it’s just a Buck or so squandered, than the thousands of Dollars to waste for even a ten-second Television commercial or a newspaper ad that is just 1/4 of the page. However what are the chances, because of the dozens, or even 100s, as well as 1000′s your SMS managed to achieve, that several would be thinking about what you’re promoting?
In the current hyperlinked globe along with hundreds of cable television channels, having your message across can be very the process, especially if you’re a small business. The prevalence of the cellular phone in contemporary living, to the point that it is just as much a necessity as it is the status image or a extravagant technological plaything, offers the little businessman, via SMS marketing, to get their sales hype to the eyes as well as ears of the consumers, quickly, successfully, as well as cheaply.

SMS Banking – Beyond Simple Notifications
In this post I would like to focus on mobile messaging services in the banking and financial services sector. An obvious service is to get SMS notifications on your mobile phone whenever there is a transaction on your account, such as a new debit or credit. However, there are many more services that are potentially available and I have listed some below:
* Notifications for account changes and transfers
* SMS notifications for credit card transactions
* Top-up prepaid cards directly from your bank account
* Transfer money to a friend’s prepaid card
* Subscription-based (premium) financial information, e.g. stock rates, breaking news
* Interactive requests for account details or financial information
* Customer announcements and greetings, e.g. birthday greetings
* Notifications on certain portfolio thresholds
* Payments for utilities such as electricity, water, etc.
* Actual bank transfers
* Receive financial charts via MMS
* Interactive currency converters
* Mobile TAN’s , i.e. use the mobile phone for authentication
* Reconfirm credit card transactions
* Mobile payment and micro credits
* Request details of the closest ATM
* Marketing campaigns via SMS or MMS
* And many more ...
The above can all be used without the need of deploying any additional applications on the mobile phones.
While notifications seem an obvious use, other services such as actual bank transfers are more complex when offered via SMS. However, even this service is already live at a couple of banks. The key to this service is to use a two-way SMS dialogue between the bank and its customer. In this way the customer is asked to reply to SMS notifications from the bank with certain information before a request or transaction can be processed. This approach has two benefits. Firstly it is more convenient for the user and secondly it is more secure.
The number-one concern of every bank is security and whether SMS banking is truly secure? It is often said that it is much easier to listen in to a telephone conversation than it is to read SMS messages ‘over the air’. Also, for sensitive services, clever transactional methods can add further security and therefore actually make this medium compliant with the strong security policies of a bank.
SMS banking could prove popular in rural areas where it might be the only way to carry out basic banking activity without traveling into the next city. And in more modern or developed cities these services add user convenience and therefore increase customer loyalty and retention.

Worldwide mobile Instant Messaging use is expected to triple in 5 years
A new report from Juniper Research predicts the number of mobile Instant Messaging users will exceed 1.3 billion by 2016, which is three times as many as last year’s total. The increase is expected to be driven by new services along with the continued growth of existing services.
However, SMS will remain as the primary means of text communication on mobile handsets, according to the report.
Daniel Ashdown, the report’s author, said “SMS has one distinct advantage over ‘over-the-top’ services: its ubiquity. With an SMS I know I can reach almost any handset in the world, if I have its number. While IM services have some advantages, such as real-time communication and apparent absence of cost, the market is fragmented by different services which cannot communicate with each other.”

Role of SMS Marketing
SMS marketing is growing rapidly with a diverse range of creative marketing applications. Like email it is a low cost interactive medium, which can be targeted, tracked, and tailored. Relative to email, key advantages are its intrusiveness, interactivity, immediacy and targeting by location.
Attitudes to SMS marketing are similar to attitudes to telemarketing, with non-acceptance from about half of consumers. However, while consumers can refuse to take a phone call, or block an unwanted email, they are currently powerless over their text messages.
Respondents are surprisingly susceptible to persuasion to accept SMS advertising in exchange for discounts or special offers. This suggests yet another new marketing area for people.

SMS Marketing
Since text messaging first became available in 1996 it has a mass market communication platform and a cultural phenomenon of the 21st Century.
The use of SMS will continue to grow as companies turn the service into a critical business function. Text messaging’s ability to immediately reach a customer anywhere and its low cost offer the ability to reach customers (external and internal) with a personally targeted message delivered “into their pocket in real time”.
Used properly SMS marketing is really effective Customer Relationship Management as it goes a long way to giving information, knowledge and empowerment to customers and the understanding that “my supplier is really looking out for me”. For example: an insurer or broker sending details of local emergency numbers such as hospitals and consulates.
It’s not all about ring tones and logos. There are many different uses for SMS including notification, emergency advisories, scheduling, news and information and staff collaboration.
SMS can generate very high levels of response, but a campaign must leverage the medium’s strengths and minimize its weaknesses. The key element of a successful campaign is value and entertainment. To market to someone effectively you must provide them value and / or entertainment in each SMS message.
It is also important that your campaign targets recipients who have expressly given their consent to receive messages from you. You must also provide them with a simple and free method of opting out from further messaging.
Successful SMS marketing is about:
- Saying the right thing.
- To the right person.
- At the right time.
The greatest strength of SMS is its immediacy. Examples of how to use it are:
Voting
Voting is an exciting way to engage your audience and let them have their say. Big Brother 3 created 3 million votes.
Instant Win
Instant win prizes where customers can find out if they have won a prize straight away really work.
Timed Vouchers
Timed vouchers drive footfall into your store, bar, club, theatre, cinema, petrol station etc and if you want user interaction then using a viral campaign where vouchers can be sent onto friends and family increases response. The SMS advises time the voucher becomes invalid.
Customer Service
Daily recipe ideas, special promotion alerts, diet tips, cocktail recipe ideas, music reviews, release dates, Top 10 charts, in store promotion alerts.
You are only limited by your imagination!
